Reading Town Meal is a vibrant, community driven event that celebrates and promotes home-grown and healthy, sustainable local food and which has become an annual occasion at Forbury Gardens.
Hundreds of home growers and allotment holders from across the town donate their fresh produce, which is then turned into a delicious, healthy two course meal by Reading College catering students.
The meal (taking place on 23-Jul-2019) is served free to around 1,000 people, accompanied by practical workshops around sustainable, healthy food and lifestyles, community groups and local food producer stalls, music from upcoming local musicians and a variety of family fun activities. This is all made possible by dozens of dedicated volunteers that complete the day.
Even with the amazing volunteer input the Town Meal still costs around £5,000 to stage. This year some grant funding has been secured, but there is still £2,000 left to raise before the event.
So, a Crowdfunding appeal has been launched to put on Reading Town Meal 2019. All donations big or small will help pay for the marquees, gas cookers, plates and cutlery, sound system – plus of course the rubbish bins and loos!
