June News

Good afternoon garden members.

The sun has finally remembered what it’s supposed to be doing and we have even seen it a few times recently! After the wettest drought in history Thames Water have now lifted the hosepipe ban but please remember to use the water wisely in the garden and where possible use water from the blue rain collectors on the sheds and cabin.

Sat 14 th July is the annual ORCG BBQ when the garden invites all local residents to come and see the garden. More details can be found on the attached flyer, please circulate it to your friends and family, especially those with small children who will love to see Owen’s Animals. Owen’s Animals will give two performances, the first at 12:45pm and the second at 1:30pm. An important point to mention at this time is that any child handling any of the animals must have a parent/carer present to give consent, there are no "nippy" animals to worry about. Children need to be calm and quiet around the animals to get the most out of them. Everyone who attends a show gets a free sticker! More info about Owen’s Animals can be found on www.owensanimals.com

As ever we ask you to bring your own main items to the BBQ. Soft drinks, rolls, condiments, plates, napkins and cutlery will be provided by the garden. For everyone’s safety please do not bring glass into the garden.

Important request: Every year the garden preparation for the BBQ falls on the same few heads, this year following a couple of garden members leaving and ill health we need more help, if you can assist in the preparation of the garden between 10am and 12noon on the morning of the BBQ it would be much appreciated, there are many small light tasks to complete to make the garden look its best, if you can help even for only for a few minutes please email the garden on oxfordroadgarden@yahoo.com with the subject “ORCG BBQ” and let us know or give me a call.

With the school holidays approaching the garden can get busy, can I remind you the garden diary is on the outside of the cabin, if you are planning a large event in the garden please email the committee on oxfordroadgarden@yahoo.com with the subject “Event” as well as putting it in the diary, this is purely to ensure there are no clashes of dates with maintenance work or external volunteers in the garden that could ruin your event. If you have photos of the garden that you are willing to go on the website then please email them to me with a caption or event title.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the BBQ and in the garden throughout the summer, let’s hope it’s a sunny one!

Regards,

Ricky Josey
